August
Funny how Brits complain about heatwaves when the temperature barely surpasses 27 degrees. I say bring it on.
What I've been up to:
- Rescued and then continued work on the Folkestone Fringe website, built in ProcessWire
- Researched accessibility certifications and whether they'd help with job and freelance prospects
- Considered starting a business doing accessibility audits and remediations
Reflections
I'm working on a website for Folkestone Fringe, a local organisation for putting on art and cultural activities in the area. They needed me to rescue their site from the ether, created by a ghost developer. This plays out regularly. Some developer or agency builds a website for an organisation, time passes, and said developer or agency either goes bust or disappears into the abyss. She luckily dug out the login to the hosting dashboard. Got into the server, copied out the site files, created a new repo and set up a new git deployment.
ProcessWire CMS goodness — It is not a nice CMS to deal with. I really don't see why any agency would choose it over another open-source option like WordPress. The front-end is an accessibility hellscape too, which led me to start thinking about whether there's a business in doing accessibility audits and remediations. There is clearly a business case for it.
